Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing the landscape of construction — not just in the field, but especially in the office. To help contractors stay competitive and efficient, Dynaimix AI delivered a two-day “Intro to AI” training for 35 professionals from 12 companies within the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of NECA (SMC NECA).
The goal? Make AI approachable, practical, and directly applicable to the workflows that drive productivity and precision in electrical contracting.
Day One: Custom GPTs + Productivity Tools
We kicked things off by building custom GPTs — giving each attendee the ability to create their own AI assistant tailored to their documents, submittals, safety logs, and project templates.
We also covered:
- The evolving AI landscape and how it affects office roles
- Side-by-side comparisons of ChatGPT vs. Microsoft Copilot
- Real-world use cases like summarizing RFIs, generating meeting notes, and improving submittal accuracy
The room was evenly split between ChatGPT and Copilot users — making it a great opportunity to showcase how both tools can work side by side to improve workflows.
Day Two: Going Deeper with Connectors, Prompts & AI Vision
On day two, we focused on advanced prompting, frameworks, and automations. Attendees learned how to:
- Use ChatGPT connectors to pull in data from their calendars, emails, and tasks
- Build scheduled automations to get real-time status updates and reminders
- Import handwritten notes and turn them into structured documents
- Leverage AI Vision tools to tag jobsite photos and detect key safety elements
We even kicked off the session with a fun team icebreaker: generating AI images related to electrical contracting.
