The Mechanical Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington (MCAA-MW) completed its first Applied AI training course. This session served as the advanced follow-up to the introductory training, shifting the focus from understanding basic concepts to applying AI in day-to-day operations
Christopher Carr, CEO and Co-Founder of Dynaimix, led the one-day training on September 22. The goal was not about introducing more software tools. Instead, the course gave contractors practical skills to build repeatable processes across their organizations.

Real-World Tools for Contractor Workflows
Contractors often start using platforms like ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot for simple text generation. Moving to advanced applications requires combining voice, vision, and custom setup instructions to manage actual construction tasks.
The course opened with an enhanced look at the state of AI, where the technology is heading, and how contractors can prepare their organizations for upcoming capabilities. From there, participants worked through several practical technical areas:
- Natural Language Processing: Moving from typing to talking using voice-to-text tools, prompting techniques, and workstation setups that make communicating with AI faster.
- Advanced Voice: Interacting conversationally with voice models to explain complex situations, ask follow-up questions, and work through problems in real time.
- AI Vision: Analyzing jobsite images, spreadsheets, dashboards, and field documents directly on desktop and mobile devices.
- Custom AI Agents: Building reusable workflows inside ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot to turn routine tasks into structured processes.
Participants explored specific custom agents designed for construction tasks. A Delegation Agent helps users think through tasks before assigning them by clarifying outcomes, expectations, responsibilities, and resources. A Specification Assessor helps navigate large specification documents, spot potential exposure, and locate project requirements faster. A Questions & Answers Agent analyzes complex emails, identifies direct and implied questions, and organizes information for complete responses.

Practical Application in the Field and Office
The afternoon session centered on submittal analysis. Attendees practiced using AI to review, organize, and extract key details from actual construction submittals.
The course concluded with hands-on capstone exercises. Participants combined prompting, voice commands, visual analysis, and custom agents to solve realistic project challenges. Rather than viewing AI tools in isolation, attendees left with working methods to handle office administration and field operations.
Expert Leadership
Christopher Carr, CEO and Co-Founder of Dynaimix, brought over two decades of digital strategy and business growth experience to the workshop.
