Why the firms making real progress on AI aren’t doing it by trial and error

Ask most contractors how their AI exploration is going and you get one of two answers. Either they haven’t started yet, or they tried something, it didn’t stick, and they moved on. What you rarely hear is a story about a firm that built a clear process, got their team on board, and actually changed how they work. Those stories exist, but they are not common. The reason usually has nothing to do with motivation or budget. It has to do with how firms approach the problem in the first place.

Most AI adoption in contracting starts without a framework. Someone downloads a tool. Someone attends a webinar. Someone tasks a project manager with figuring it out. None of that is wrong, but none of it tends to produce lasting change. What produces lasting change is working through AI with someone who understands both the technology and how businesses actually operate, and who can connect those two things in a way that is specific to your firm.

That is the model Dynaimix was built around.

The entry point looks different depending on where a firm is. Some firms need to understand the landscape before they can make any decisions. That is where an AI Dream Session makes sense. It is a structured consulting engagement focused on your actual operations, not AI in the abstract. A Dynaimix consultant works through your top three departments, evaluates the software you are already running, identifies where the real bottlenecks are, and delivers a roadmap that is specific to your business. Firms walk away with a clear picture of what AI can actually do for them, which workflows to address first, and whether their current tools can support the rollout or need adjustment. That is a different starting point than experimenting on your own.

For firms that already have a sense of where they want to apply AI but need help building the solution, AI Shadowing goes deeper. This is a hands-on engagement where a Dynaimix consultant joins your team virtually, observes how a specific workflow actually runs, and works alongside your people to redesign it using AI. The output is not a slide deck with recommendations. It is updated SOPs, a custom AI solution built for that specific process, and a quantified estimate of time savings so leadership can see the ROI before scaling anything. The engagement is five to seven hours and is designed to produce something immediately usable, not a plan for something you might build someday.

Both of those services work at the workflow and strategy level. But for firms that want to embed AI into how the organization thinks and makes decisions over the long term, the AI Council is a different kind of commitment. Dynaimix works with your leadership over twelve months to build a cross-functional team dedicated to AI governance, strategy, and implementation. This is not an IT project. It involves operations, business development, finance, and whoever in your organization touches the work that AI could eventually support. The reason this matters is that AI initiatives driven only by one department tend to stall. When the right people are involved from the beginning, the decisions are better and the adoption holds.

There is also the question of Project to Pipeline, which sits in a different category but is relevant to any firm thinking about what AI-assisted work can look like in business development. Many contracting firms do excellent work and have nothing to show for it when the next opportunity comes around. Project to Pipeline is built to fix that. It takes the work you have already completed, extracts the story from it, and builds the assets that turn it into something you can use to win new work, including case studies, website content, social content, and email copy. It is built on Farotech’s proven marketing infrastructure and is designed specifically for firms that do not have the internal bandwidth to do this themselves.

The common thread across all of this is that none of it requires a firm to have everything figured out before they start. The AI Dream Session is designed for firms that are still asking basic questions. AI Shadowing is designed for firms that have a specific problem and want to solve it correctly. The AI Council is for firms that want to build something lasting. Project to Pipeline is for firms that are ready to let their completed work do more work.

Where a firm starts depends on where they are. But the firms that are making real progress are not doing it alone, and they are not doing it by accident.

We recently had Chris Carr present to our members on behalf of Dynaimix, and it was an overwhelming success. We had a full classroom, and the engagement throughout the session was outstanding. Many attendees who initially felt intimidated by AI left feeling empowered and confident in how they can begin applying it in their work.

Brubacher engaged Chris , founder of Dynaimix, in a two-day mind-stretching exploration of current AI capabilities, future direction, and most importantly he outlined the likely impacts to our business. He introduced us to a variety of AI tools to explore using to increase efficiency. Some participants immediately identified ways to save hours per week while others began using AI-enabled tools to offset areas in which they lack skills. Chris is high-energy, kept our attention, and has been attentive in follow-up.

We had the pleasure of having Chris Carr present at our annual planning meeting at Oliver Fire Protection & Security, which is a critical event for setting the direction of our year. Our goal was to give our strategic leadership team a stronger understanding of artificial intelligence and how it will impact our business. Chris delivered his state of AI presentation and completely blew our team away. His depth of knowledge, paired with practical, real-world examples, made the topic both clear and compelling.

I had the opportunity to bring Chris Carr to the NECA Districts 6 and 9 Summer Conferences on the North Shore of Hawaii, where he came in locked and loaded and delivered two impactful sessions—one for each district. What I appreciate most about Chris and the Dynaimix team is his genuine passion for what he presents and his constant focus on applying AI in practical, meaningful ways for the electrical contracting industry.

I’ve had the opportunity to see Chris’s State of AI presentation multiple times, and each experience reinforced his strong grasp of AI—where it’s going, how quickly the landscape is changing, and what that means for electrical contractors. What sets Chris apart is his ability to take an incredibly complex topic and make it both approachable and immediately relevant to our industry.

We had the privilege of having Chris Carr present to our leadership team after first seeing him speak at a peer group event. That experience led us to bring him in for a two-day Intro to AI training where he covered the foundational elements of artificial intelligence. Prior to the training, Chris met with us to understand our business, which allowed him to tailor the content specifically to our needs. What impressed us most was his ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and easy-to-understand way.
